Red Inkworks Cult Movie Page
Devoted to the best of the "B"
movies and some of the best cult movies of all time.
THE WORLD OF CULT MOVIES
1000 Misspent Hours and Counting: A site promising to
be the only movie review site that is aimed at
wrong-thinking. Interesting and full of it's own special
charm.
Agony Booth, The: Is an ongoing inquisition into some
of the worst movies humanity has to offer, and is not for
the weak of spirit or the easily disheartened. However, if
you think you have the fortitude to completely immerse
yourself in a truly awful film, withstanding in-depth
commentary and analysis, then the Agony Booth is the place
for you.
Alternative Cinema: Dedicated to the enjoyment of
independent and underground movies that range from the
brilliant to the bizarre and everything in between.
Astounding "B" Monster, The: Devoted to the triumphs
and follies of arcane cinema as realized in the monster
movie. Data base information in
easy to navigate categories.
Atomic Monsters: Reviews of the cheesiest B-movie
science fiction films of the atomic age, including photos.
B-Independent: On-line cult film entertainment. News,
reviews, interviews and much more.
B-Notes: By pure definition, a B movie is a cheaply
produced movie. The expression used to mean either a movie
made by a major studio without the studio's full support or
a movie made by an intentionally minor production company.
The result was usually a "generic movie." Since then, the
term has been broadened to include any movie that was
cheaply made, especially if the low budget limited the
production to noticeably shoddy material and poor
craftsmanship. This is not to imply that all B movies are,
by their inexpensive nature, inferior imitations of superior
products, but it does mean they are rarely taken seriously
by an audience that is into conspicuous consumption.
Bad Cinema Diary:
Is
an illustrated video guide to over 1400 B-movies,
independents, and micro-budget films from all genres and
eras. You won't find reviews here of the latest Hollywood
mega-buck pictures; but if your tastes run towards the likes
of Robot Monster and Terror at Orgy Castle, welcome to the
Bad Cinema Diary.
Bad Movie Planet: Bad movies reviewed and ridiculed.
BadMovies.Org: Welcome b-movie fan. Here is a safe
place to indulge in your more unsavoury cinematic tastes.
You watch them after family members go to bed, your
significant other (hey, it is a bold new world) screws up
their face in disgust every time you linger over

Ice, once a friend even hit you for renting
something really awful. That is all going to change now.
Here is a website where you can read reviews, talk with
other b-movie fans, and glorify the genre.

CULT EXPLOITATION FILMS -
HISTORY and COMMENTARY
Doris
Wishman: The films of Doris Wishman may provide
the missing link between the worlds of Ed Wood and Russ
Meyer.
Edgar
G. Ulmer: Ulmer's films often seem like a
running reflection on the self-destruction of individuals
and civilizations, on the extent of human delusion,
rapacity, and ineptitude, in which the impoverishment of his
means expresses the tragic limitations of the world he
represents.
Flickhead:
Impressive articles covering exploitation cult films...and
some of the talent involved.
I

article. The full version of this essay was originally

unknown films that merit a second look.

RED INKWORKS CULT MOVIE
SELECTIONS
Angel Heart: 1987 Quirky, starring Robert Di Niro, Lisa
Bonet and Mickey Rourke. Harry Angel has a new case, to find
a man called Johnny Favourite. Except things aren't quite
that simple, and Johnny doesn't want to be found. Let's just
say that, amongst the period detail and beautiful scenery,
it all gets really, really nasty.
Day of The Locust, The: The film
version of The Day of The Locust (1975, Donald Sutherland,
Karen Black) is based on the novel by Nathanael West. The
story is about Hollywood and the American Dream turned
sour. A Hollywood that is not the glam capital "Home of The
Stars". Instead the movie scathingly portrays the world of
sham illusion, of lost dreams and morals. The final ten
minutes of this excellent movie will make you happy that you
did not make that extra-large bowl of popcorn.
Darkness Before The Dawn, The: An Ingmar Bergman
classic. Darkly disturbing, obscure and much maligned by
some.
Delicatessen: In a post-apocalyptic society where food
is so rare it's invaluable and used as currency and people
eat each other a young clown applies for a job at a local
delicatessen. The butcher's intent is to have him work for a
little and then serve him to his stranger than normal
tenants who pay him in, of course, grain. This clown falls
in love with the butcher's daughter who tries to foil her
father's plans by contacting the rebels. The rebels are
possibly the most sensible of the lot, as they see food as
food and not money.
Fountainhead, The: Individualistic and idealistic
architect Howard Roark is expelled from college because his
designs fail to fit with existing architectural thinking. He
seems unemployable but finally lands a job with like-minded
Henry Cameron, however within a few years Cameron drinks
himself to death, warning Roark that the same fate awaits
unless he compromises his ideals. Roark is determined to
retain his artistic integrity at all costs.
Lair of the White Worm, The: Ken Russell's classic
erotic horror movie.
Night of the Living Dead: (1968) The one that started
it all.
Psycho: 1960 Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Arguably the
beginning of the 'slasher' sub-genre.
Satan Was A Lady: Doris Wishman’s twenty eighth feature
in a career spanning five decades of vehemently
idiosyncratic filmmaking. In this round, Wishman attacks;
swinging and slashing to reconfirm her title as Godmother of
Motion Picture Pulp and, pound-for-pound, the Baddest
Director in the World. Amen!
Strange Days: Set in the year 1999 during the last days
of the old millennium, the movie tells the story of Lenny
Nero, an ex-cop who now deals with data-discs containing
recorded memories and emotions. One day he receives a disc
which contains the memories of a murderer killing a
prostitute. Lenny investigates and is pulled deeper and
deeper in a whirl of blackmail, murder and rape.
Uninvited, The: A brother and sister move into an old
seaside house they find abandoned for many years on the
English coast. Their original enchantment with the house
diminishes as they hear stories of the previous owners and
meet their daughter (now a young woman) who now lives as a
neighbour with her grandfather. Also heard are unexplained
sounds during the night. It becomes obvious that the house
is haunted.
